Tue Oct 15 16:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Steelers’ Russell Wilson Could See Action This Week, Potentially Starting Against the Jets

**PITTSBURGH, PA** – The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to give veteran quarterback Russell Wilson first-team reps in practice this week, putting him in line for a possible season debut and start against the New York Jets on Sunday night, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.

Wilson has been sidelined with a calf injury since before Week 1. He was activated in Week 6 but served as the backup to Justin Fields. Head coach Mike Tomlin, while acknowledging Wilson’s health is proven, has not officially confirmed a starting decision.

“He’s in consideration this week. We’ll see where that leads us,” said Tomlin. “We’re just looking at all the people at our disposal.”

The Steelers are 4-2 on the season, with Fields starting the first six games. While Fields has led the team to victory, the offense has been inconsistent, particularly through the air. Tomlin has expressed a desire to see what Wilson can bring to the passing attack.

“Justin has been really good, and we’ve been good at times, but not to be confused with great,” Tomlin explained. “This is a competitive league, man. We’re trying to position ourselves to be that team, and we’ve got a player with talent who hasn’t had an opportunity to play, so we’re going to explore those things.”

Tomlin also hinted at the possibility of utilizing both quarterbacks against the Jets.

The decision on whether to start Wilson or Fields will depend on Tomlin’s assessment of their strengths and weaknesses. The Steelers are looking to maximize their potential, and Wilson’s return adds another element to their offensive strategy.
