Mon Oct 14 21:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Ohtani’s 36-Game Stealing Streak Ends in NLCS Opener

**LOS ANGELES** – Shohei Ohtani’s remarkable 36-game streak of successful stolen bases came to an end on Sunday in the National League Championship Series opener against the New York Mets.

The two-way star was caught stealing second base in the second inning, ending his impressive run that began back in July. Francisco Álvarez, the Mets’ catcher, made the throw to nab Ohtani, who was attempting to steal his 60th base of the season.

Prior to Sunday’s game, Ohtani’s last unsuccessful stolen base attempt came on July 22nd against the San Francisco Giants, with Patrick Bailey also catching him at second base.

Despite the failed steal, Ohtani had a strong offensive performance in the game. He delivered a two-run single in the first inning and another single in the fourth inning, contributing to a 6-0 Dodgers lead. He finished the game with two hits and two runs scored.

Ohtani’s remarkable season saw him achieve the unique “50-50” milestone, with 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and 59 stolen bases. He also led the National League in home runs and RBIs, while batting a remarkable .310.

While Ohtani missed the pitching mound this season due to elbow surgery, his dominance at the plate has continued to amaze fans and analysts alike. The failed stolen base may have ended his streak, but it certainly won’t diminish his remarkable accomplishments in the 2023 season.
