Tue Oct 15 06:00:40 UTC 2024: ## New Zealand Women Secure Semi-Final Spot After Thrashing Pakistan in T20 World Cup
**Sydney, Australia:** New Zealand Women have secured a semi-final berth in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after a convincing 54-run victory over Pakistan Women in their final group stage match. The White Ferns’ win also eliminates both India and Pakistan from the tournament.
Batting first, New Zealand posted a fighting total of 110/6, with contributions from Suzie Bates, Brooke Halliday, Sophie Devine, and Georgia Plimmer. Pakistan, however, struggled to chase down the target, losing early wickets and failing to build any substantial partnerships.
Eden Carson was the Player of the Match for her incredible bowling performance, taking two crucial wickets in the Powerplay and ultimately ending with figures of 2/17. Her fellow bowlers, Melie Kerr (3/15) and Rosemary Mair (1/19), played their part in restricting Pakistan to a paltry 56 runs.
Pakistan’s batting woes were compounded by poor fielding, with dropped catches costing them dearly. Captain Fatima Sana Khan acknowledged their batting shortcomings, stating that the senior players need to take more responsibility in such crucial matches.
New Zealand, on the other hand, celebrated their semi-final qualification with joy. Sophie Devine, the New Zealand captain, expressed her happiness and emphasized that this is just the beginning for her team.
The White Ferns will now face West Indies Women in the semi-finals on October 15th at 2 pm GMT.
