Tue Oct 15 08:30:00 UTC 2024: ## India’s Navy Gets a Boost: New ‘Very Low Frequency’ Communication Centre Inaugurated in Telangana

**Pooduru, Telangana:** India took a major step towards strengthening its naval communication network today with the inauguration of a new ‘Very Low Frequency’ (VLF) communication transmission station and radar center in Telangana. The foundation stone for this crucial project was laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

The new facility, located in the Damagundam forest area of Vikarabad district, will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s ability to communicate with its ships and submarines across vast distances, even in challenging conditions.

The project has received significant support from the Telangana government, which allocated 2,900 acres of forest land to the Eastern Naval Command, based in Visakhapatnam, six months ago.

Besides the radar station, the site will also see the construction of a township for the naval personnel, including amenities like schools, hospitals, banks, and markets. The township is expected to house around 600 Navy employees and their families, with an estimated population of 2,500-3,000.

As part of the project, a 27 km road network will be built around the Damagundam reserve forest. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.

This new VLF center will not only bolster India’s naval communication capabilities but also create new employment opportunities in the region. The project underlines the Indian government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s defense infrastructure and ensuring the security of its maritime interests.
