**Mumbai, October 26, 2023:** The Election Commission of India has announced that the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections will be held on **November 20, 2024**, in a single phase, with results declared on **November 23, 2024**. The announcement was made during a press conference in Delhi.

The current Assembly term will end on November 26, 2024. The elections will witness a total of 9.63 crore voters across 1,186 polling stations. The entire voting process will be video-recorded for transparency.

Special arrangements will be made for senior citizens above 85 years, who will be allowed to vote from their homes by filling a form with the Election Commission.

The state is likely to see a fierce battle between two major alliances. The Mahayuati, consisting of the BJP, Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar, will be up against the alliance of Congress, Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, and NCP led by Sharad Pawar.

The Election Commission has launched a new app called “Suvidha Portal” for voters to file complaints and report irregularities. The app will allow for quick action from the Election Commission, with their team reaching the location within 90 minutes of a complaint being registered.

To curb potential malpractices, the movement of cash-carrying vehicles will be restricted from 6 pm to 8 am during the election period. There will be strict monitoring of cash, drugs, and alcohol transportation in the state. Ambulance services, banks, and financial institutions will also be under surveillance.

The 17 C copy of the polling agents will be given after the voting concludes, providing information on the voter turnout. Strict action will be taken against the dissemination of fake news and deep fake content on social media.
