Tue Oct 15 06:00:59 UTC 2024: ## India Condemns Canada’s ‘Preposterous’ Allegations Against Diplomats, Accuses Trudeau Government of Political Agenda

**New Delhi, India** – The Indian government has strongly condemned a diplomatic communication from Canada labeling the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats as “persons of interest” in an ongoing investigation. India has rejected these allegations as “preposterous” and attributed them to the “political agenda” of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, citing his “hostility” towards India.

The statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs alleges that Canada has not provided any evidence to support its claims despite repeated requests from India. Furthermore, India accuses Canada of using the investigation as a pretext to smear India for political gain, particularly ahead of Prime Minister Trudeau’s upcoming testimony before a commission investigating foreign interference in Canadian politics.

India alleges that Canada has consistently catered to the anti-India separatist agenda, providing space for extremists and terrorists to harass and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada. This includes death threats against Indian diplomats and leaders, which Canada has justified under the guise of freedom of speech. Additionally, India claims that Canada has fast-tracked citizenship for individuals who entered the country illegally and has disregarded multiple extradition requests for terrorists and organized crime leaders residing in Canada.

The Indian government has taken notice of the activities of the Canadian High Commission in India, deeming them to be politically motivated, and has implemented the principle of reciprocity in regard to diplomatic representation. India reserves the right to take further action in response to Canada’s continued efforts to “concoct allegations” against Indian diplomats.

The statement specifically criticizes the allegations against High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma, a veteran diplomat with over 36 years of service. India considers the aspersions cast on him “ludicrous” and deserving of contempt.

The Indian government’s statement highlights the growing tensions between the two countries, accusing Canada of exploiting the investigation for political gain and failing to address India’s concerns. The situation raises questions about the future of India-Canada relations and the potential for further escalation.
