Tue Oct 15 04:01:25 UTC 2024: ## India Announces Squad for New Zealand Test Series, Bumrah Named Vice-Captain

**New Delhi:** India is all set to face New Zealand in a three-match Test series starting from October 16th. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the first Test, with only one change from the team that recently defeated Bangladesh 2-0.

The biggest talking point is the appointment of **Jasprit Bumrah as vice-captain** for the series. This decision comes amidst speculation that Rohit Sharma, the current Test captain, may miss some of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches against Australia due to personal reasons. It is also rumored that Rohit could retire from Test cricket after the World Test Championship.

**Bumrah’s elevation as vice-captain** is seen as a strategic move by the BCCI, positioning him to potentially lead the team in Rohit’s absence.

The only change in the squad from the Bangladesh Test series sees **Prasidh Krishna** replacing **Yash Dayal**.

**The full squad:**

* Rohit Sharma (Captain)
* Jasprit Bumrah (Vice-captain)
* Yashasvi Jaiswal
* Shubman Gill
* Virat Kohli
* KL Rahul
* Suryakumar Yadav
* Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper)
* Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper)
* Ravichandran Ashwin
