Tue Oct 15 09:21:16 UTC 2024: ## New Zealand Pacer Ben Sears Ruled Out of India Test Series Due to Knee Injury

**Bengaluru, India:** New Zealand’s pace bowler Ben Sears has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match Test series against India due to a knee injury, the Blackcaps confirmed on Tuesday. Sears, who had complained of pain in his left knee during training for the recent Sri Lanka series, underwent tests in New Zealand last week, revealing a torn meniscus.

Despite seeking medical advice and hoping for Sears’ recovery, doctors ultimately advised against his participation in the series.

Replacing Sears in the squad is Jacob Duffy, a 30-year-old fast bowler who is yet to make his Test debut for New Zealand. He has previously represented the team in six ODIs and 14 T20Is. Duffy, with 299 first-class wickets to his name, will depart for India on Tuesday.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Sears’ absence but expressed excitement about having Duffy as a replacement. “We’re obviously disappointed for Ben who made a strong start to his Test career during the home summer and offers a genuine pace option,” Stead stated. He added that Duffy has the chance to make his Test debut during the series. “It’s an exciting opportunity for Jacob who has been around Test the squad before. With three Tests ahead of us, he has every chance of making his Test debut.”

The first Test of the series is scheduled to commence on October 16th in Bengaluru. New Zealand is already without the services of their star batsman Kane Williamson due to injury.
