Mon Oct 14 21:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Sarasota Airport Suffers Major Damage From Hurricane Milton

**SARASOTA, Fla.** – Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Siesta Keys, Florida, has caused significant damage to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ). The airport, directly hit by the hurricane’s powerful eyewall, has been forced to close until October 16th at 9 a.m.

The storm’s 100-mph-plus wind gusts ripped the entire roof off Concourse B, which houses the screening checkpoint and all 13 aircraft loading gates. Photos from the airport reveal extensive debris and water damage throughout the boarding gates and waiting areas. Another building near the airport was nearly destroyed.

“The airport team is hard at work and clean-up and repairs have already begun,” said airport officials.

Weather instruments at the airport confirmed that the eye and its powerful eyewalls passed directly over the facility. The strongest gusts, reaching 102 mph, were recorded as the back side of the eyewall moved through.

Airport officials report that power outages have impacted their ability to track weather data.
