Tue Oct 15 15:22:36 UTC 2024: ## Experienced West Indian Phil Simmons Appointed as Bangladesh’s New Head Coach

**DHAKA** – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the appointment of former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons as their new head coach. Simmons, known for his extensive international coaching experience, will arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday to join the team in preparation for their upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against South Africa.

Simmons, who previously coached Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan, and West Indies, brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success to the role. Notably, he led the West Indies to victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2016.

“I have had the opportunity to speak to Phil Simmons and have listened to his cricket philosophy and ideas,” said BCB President Faruque Ahmed. “His extensive coaching experience, vision, and proven track record of success make him an ideal choice for this role.”

Simmons replaces Sri Lanka’s Chandika Hathurusinghe, who had a second stint as Bangladesh’s head coach from January 2023. While the Tigers achieved a historic 2-0 Test series win against Pakistan, they struggled in recent ICC events, including the Men’s ODI and T20 World Cups.

The Tigers are aiming to bounce back in the upcoming WTC series against South Africa, which begins on October 21st in Mirpur. Bangladesh currently sits seventh in the WTC standings with a point percentage of 34.38.

Simmons has agreed to work with the BCB until the ICC Champions Trophy competition in Pakistan next year. His appointment is expected to bring a new dynamic to the Bangladesh team and help them compete at the highest level of international cricket.
