Tue Oct 15 10:21:53 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly Elections Announced, Bypolls for 2 Lok Sabha Seats and 48 Assembly Seats
**New Delhi:** The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The polls will be held on November 20 in Maharashtra and in two phases in Jharkhand, on November 13 and 20. Voting for two Lok Sabha seats in Wayanad (Kerala) and Nanded (Maharashtra) and 48 Assembly seats across different states will also be conducted on these dates.
The counting of votes for all elections will be held on November 23.
The current Maharashtra assembly, with 288 members, will end its term on November 26, while the 81-member Jharkhand assembly will end its term on January 5, 2024. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP, and BJP currently governs Maharashtra, while the JMM-Congress alliance governs Jharkhand.
The ECI also announced the schedule for by-elections for 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat on November 13, and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat and one assembly seat in Uttarakhand on November 20.
The ECI’s announcement marks the beginning of the election season in these states. The parties are now expected to ramp up their campaigning efforts to garner support from the electorate.
