Tue Oct 15 04:01:31 UTC 2024: ## Williamson Doubtful for First Test as New Zealand Announces Squad for India Tour

**Bangalore, India:** New Zealand has announced their squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against India, with former captain Kane Williamson included. However, the veteran batsman’s participation remains uncertain due to a lingering knee injury.

While Williamson was named in the squad, he is expected to miss the first Test starting October 16th in Bangalore. The injury was sustained during the recent Test against Sri Lanka, and he is currently undergoing treatment.

“The medical advice we’ve received is that Kane needs to rest to allow his injury to heal and avoid further risk of aggravation,” said New Zealand selector Sam Wells.

Williamson’s return is therefore expected towards the end of the series.

In the meantime, Tom Latham will lead the side, taking over from Tim Southee who stepped down from captaincy after New Zealand’s recent dismal performance against Sri Lanka.

Southee, a seasoned fast bowler, has retained his place in the squad.

Michael Bracewell, the all-rounder, will be available for the first Test but will return home for the birth of his child, missing the subsequent matches. Ish Sodhi will replace him for the second and third Tests in Pune and Mumbai respectively.
