Tue Oct 15 01:01:43 UTC 2024: ## World Celebrates ‘World Students Day’ on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Birthday

**New Delhi, India:** The world will commemorate ‘World Students Day’ on October 15th, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Indian President and renowned scientist, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, popularly known as the “Missile Man of India.”

The United Nations, in 2010, declared October 15th as ‘World Students Day’ to honor Dr. Kalam’s significant contributions to education and his inspirational life.

Dr. Kalam, born in 1931, played a pivotal role in India’s nuclear program and became the 11th President of India in 2002. He was known for his simple life, his dedication to education, and his impactful speeches that motivated generations of students.

Interestingly, Dr. Kalam’s life had a strong connection with prominent Indian businessman, the late Ratan Tata. The two shared a deep bond, forged during a crucial phase in India’s missile development program.

In the 1990s, while Dr. Kalam was the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was facing difficulties in the production of missiles. The project’s progress was hampered by delays and the need to coordinate production across different locations.

Dr. Kalam, wanting to expedite the process, approached Ratan Tata, then Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), for assistance. Tata, recognizing the national importance of the project, readily agreed. He ensured the development of software that streamlined the production process, ultimately leading to the successful completion of the project.

This collaboration not only accelerated the missile program but also solidified a lasting friendship between the two iconic figures.

‘World Students Day’ celebrates the spirit of learning and the unwavering dedication of students, much like Dr. Kalam’s life exemplified. It serves as a reminder of the power of education in shaping individuals and societies.
