**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** A tense situation gripped Bahraich after communal violence erupted during the immersion procession of a Durga idol, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man.

On Monday, the situation escalated with incidents of arson and rioting. In response, the UP government dispatched the Principal Secretary (Home), Sanjiv Gupta, and ADG (Law and Order), Amitabh Yash, to the affected area.

Upon arrival, Amitabh Yash, witnessing the agitated crowd, took charge himself. He drew his pistol and confronted the mob while instructing his officers to disperse them. The situation was further escalated with calls to “chase and beat” the mob.

Police Superintendent Vrinda Shukla confirmed the arrest of approximately 30 individuals involved in the violence. She stated that security forces have been deployed in the affected areas, and CCTV footage is being analyzed to identify the culprits. A case has been registered against Salman, who is alleged to have opened fire from his shop.

District Magistrate Monika Rani informed that the incident stemmed from an altercation during the procession. The ensuing chaos resulted in the death of Ram Gopal Mishra, who was shot.

The BJP MLA from Mahasi, Sureshwar Singh, expressed condolences and highlighted the demands of the victim’s family, including immediate arrest of the accused, suspension of the SHO and the police outpost in-charge.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the violence and assured that the culprits will not be spared. He instructed the authorities to ensure timely immersion of the idols and initiate dialogue with religious organizations.
