Mon Oct 14 06:00:00 UTC 2024: ## “Terrifier 3” Slashes Box Office, While “Joker 2” Plummets in Historic Drop
This weekend’s box office saw a stark contrast in performance, with the horror film “Terrifier 3” exceeding expectations while the highly anticipated “Joker: Folie à Deux” suffered a record-breaking second weekend drop.
“Terrifier 3,” a low-budget slasher flick, earned an impressive $18.3 million from 2,514 theaters, surpassing the domestic total of its predecessor. This massive success showcases the film’s appeal to horror fans, proving its massive return on investment.
Meanwhile, “Joker: Folie à Deux” experienced a staggering 81% decline in its second weekend, bringing in just $7 million. This drop marks the worst second weekend performance for a wide release with an opening weekend exceeding $30 million.
Despite the disappointment of “Joker 2,” other films continued to perform well. “The Wild Robot,” which has garnered critical acclaim, saw a modest 29% drop in its third weekend, earning $13.5 million. The film’s success has led DreamWorks to greenlight a sequel.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” remains a strong performer, generating $7.1 million in its sixth weekend. While its overseas performance is limited, its strong domestic box office puts it on track to surpass “Dune: Part Two” as Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing film in the US this year.
New releases, such as the animated documentary “Piece By Piece” and the Jason Reitman film “Saturday Night,” had a mixed performance. “Piece By Piece” earned a modest $3.8 million, while “Saturday Night” brought in $3.5 million despite positive reviews.
Rounding out the top 10 were “My Hero Academia: You’re Next,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (re-release), and “The Apprentice,” which debuted with a disappointing $1.5 million.
The weekend’s box office results demonstrate the unpredictable nature of the film industry, with smaller films like “Terrifier 3” proving their potential for success while highly anticipated releases like “Joker 2” face unexpected challenges.
