**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** The West Indies secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series played at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka, batting first after winning the toss, posted a respectable total of 179/7 thanks to half-centuries from Kusal Mendis (51) and captain Charith Asalanka (59). Asalanka’s knock included 9 boundaries off just 35 balls.
Romario Shepherd was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, taking two wickets for 39 runs.
In reply, the West Indies got off to a flying start with explosive knocks from Evin Lewis (50 off 28 balls) and Brandon King (63 off 33 balls). King’s innings included 11 boundaries and a six, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Despite losing Lewis and King, the West Indies remained composed and chased down the target with 19.1 overs to spare.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers fought hard, with Matheesha Pathirana claiming two wickets for 27 runs. However, the West Indies proved too strong in the end.
