Sun Oct 13 23:23:56 UTC 2024: ## Steelers WR Pickens Under Investigation for Explicit Eye Black Message

**PITTSBURGH, PA** – Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens is facing scrutiny from the NFL for an explicit message displayed on his eye black during Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The league is investigating the message, which appeared to read “Open F—ing Always” in silver or white lettering.

The NFL prohibits players from displaying personal messages on their uniforms without prior league approval. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, however, remained tight-lipped on the matter, stating, “I don’t know what messaging you’re talking about,” according to ESPN.

Pickens’ actions on the field are also under the microscope. After the final whistle, he grabbed Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis’ facemask, prompting a heated exchange. Lewis responded by calling Pickens “weak” and suggesting the Steelers need a new receiver.

The incident comes at a time when Pickens’ snap count and effort have been questioned. He played just 34 snaps against Dallas, his lowest count of the season, and recorded only three catches for 26 yards.

Pickens’ performance this season has been inconsistent. He has 23 catches for 310 yards in five games after a breakout year in 2023 with 63 catches for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns.

Fines for Pickens’ alleged violation of the NFL’s messaging rule are expected to be announced on Saturday.
