Mon Oct 14 08:03:30 UTC 2024: ## NCPCR Urges States to Freeze Funding and Shut Down Madrasas
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has urged all state and union territory chief secretaries and administrators to freeze funding to Madrasas and shut down Madrasa boards. This recommendation comes in light of the NCPCR report, “Guardians of Faith or Oppressors of Rights: Children’s Rights vs. Madrasas”, which highlights alleged violations of children’s rights in these institutions.
NCPCR chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, has written to state governments, claiming that Madrasas violate the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009. He has requested the states to remove all non-Muslim children from Madrasas and enroll them in schools for basic education. The commission has also requested the enrollment of all Muslim children, regardless of Madrasa accreditation, in formal schools.
The NCPCR has stressed the importance of ensuring that education in Madrasas is delivered according to the prescribed time and curriculum outlined by the RTE 2009.
The NCPCR has been actively campaigning against the alleged forced Islamic education and illegal confinement of children in Madrasas across the country. The commission argues that these institutions violate the provisions of modern education.
