Mon Oct 14 08:03:27 UTC 2024: ## BJP Demands Ban on Madarsa Funding, Accuses Institutions of Promoting Islam Over Education
**New Delhi:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the suspension of funding for madrasas, alleging that these institutions promote Islam over education. BJP spokesperson RP Singh, in a statement released on Tuesday, asserted that madrasas are forcing non-Muslim children to learn Islamic doctrines, violating their right to education.
This comes following a recommendation by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to halt funding for madrasa boards. Welcoming the recommendation, Singh stated that madrasas should prioritize education instead of solely focusing on religious indoctrination.
“Under the Right to Education Act, no child can be forced to learn about another religion,” Singh emphasized. “It’s a matter of concern that madrasas are imposing Islamic knowledge on children from other faiths.”
The NCPCR, in a letter to state and union territory chief secretaries, has urged a complete stop to funding for madrasa boards. The commission has also recommended transferring non-Muslim children currently enrolled in madrasas to mainstream schools under the RTE Act 2009.
The BJP has expressed hope that state governments will take the matter seriously and implement appropriate regulations regarding madrasa funding.
In a separate development, Singh responded to an editorial published by the Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ which accused the BJP of perpetrating atrocities against the underprivileged in states it rules. Singh dismissed the editorial as detached from reality and highlighted the BJP’s commitment to upliftment of backward communities, citing the victory of the BJP in the recent Haryana Assembly elections.
The BJP, which secured 48 seats in the Haryana polls, was able to form its government for the third consecutive term. This victory, according to Singh, demonstrates the strong support enjoyed by the BJP among backward communities.
Singh further reacted to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent speech, where Bhagwat warned of anti-national forces attempting to hinder India’s progress. Singh asserted that Bhagwat’s speech touched upon key social, political, and national issues. He called out political parties that may be colluding with these anti-national forces and expressed confidence that the RSS chief’s message will inspire societal unity and resistance against divisive elements.
