Mon Oct 14 06:41:53 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Toll Plazas Go Free for Cars: A Boon for Commuters

**Mumbai, October 14, 2024:** In a move aimed at alleviating traffic woes and providing relief to commuters, the Maharashtra Cabinet has announced that five toll plazas in Mumbai will be free for light motor vehicles (cars) starting from Monday midnight.

The decision, which comes ahead of the state assembly elections, is expected to significantly benefit motorists who frequently travel through these toll points.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the decision at the state cabinet meeting, also expressing grief over the recent killing of former state minister Baba Siddique and adopting a condolence resolution.

The cabinet also decided to name the Maharashtra Skill Development University after the late philanthropist Ratan Tata, who passed away recently at the age of 86.

This move is widely seen as a pre-election tactic by the ruling government to garner public support. The current assembly term ends on November 26, and elections are due to be held before then.
