**Sharjah, UAE:** India’s hopes of reaching the semifinals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 took a hit on Sunday after a thrilling nine-run loss against Australia.
Australia, already assured of a semi-final berth, posted a challenging 151/8 in their 20 overs. Opener Grace Harris top-scored with 40 runs, while contributions from Ellis Perry (32) and Tahlia McGrath (32) kept the scoreboard ticking.
India’s chase was hampered by early wickets, with the loss of both openers, Shefali Verma (20) and Smriti Mandhana (6), within the first seven overs. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur (54 not out) and Deepti Sharma (29) stitched together a crucial 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
