Mon Oct 14 14:10:28 UTC 2024: ## India Backs Virat Kohli to Shine in New Zealand Series Ahead of Australia Tour

**Bengaluru, India:** Ahead of the crucial three-match Test series against New Zealand, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed confidence in star batter Virat Kohli’s ability to perform well, both in this series and the highly anticipated tour of Australia.

Gambhir highlighted Kohli’s unwavering hunger for runs, comparing his current determination to the passion he displayed during his debut. “Virat has always been a world-class cricketer,” Gambhir stated. “His hunger is always there, just like when he made his debut in Sri Lanka.”

Despite a slight dip in form during the 2020s, Kohli has been consistently performing in the longer format since scoring his 28th Test century against Australia in March 2022. Gambhir is confident that Kohli will translate this form into success against New Zealand and, importantly, during the upcoming Australian tour.

The first Test of the series begins on October 16 in Bengaluru, with India aiming to extend their dominant home record.

In other news, Gambhir has also assured fans that Kuldeep Yadav, who missed the recent Bangladesh Tests, will be considered for selection, highlighting India’s wealth of bowling talent.

Addressing the challenge posed by New Zealand, Gambhir acknowledged their quality and professionalism, while maintaining a confident approach. “They have players who can do the job for them, so we respect them, but we do not fear anyone,” he said.

The Indian head coach also emphasized the team’s commitment to adaptability, aiming to develop a squad capable of scoring runs quickly, as well as playing for long periods to secure draws. This, he believes, reflects true growth and adaptation in the modern game.

India’s 15-player squad for the series features Jasprit Bumrah as vice-captain, while New Zealand will be led by Tim Southee.
