Sun Oct 13 21:20:00 UTC 2024: ## NASCAR’s Damaged Vehicle Policy Faces Backlash After Talladega Chaos
**Charlotte, NC** – Bubba Wallace, driver for 23XI Racing, has voiced his frustration with NASCAR’s recent changes to the Damaged Vehicles Policy (DVP) following the 28-car pileup at Talladega Superspeedway. Wallace described the adjustments as “bulls**t,” expressing skepticism about their effectiveness and consistency.
The DVP has been a source of controversy since its modification, allowing cars with flat tires to be repaired and return to the race. This has led to inconsistent enforcement, with some cars being disqualified for minor damage while others involved in major incidents are allowed to return after repairs.
The issue came to a head at Talladega, where multiple cars, including those involved in the massive crash, were repaired and rejoined the race, raising questions about the fairness and clarity of the DVP’s application.
NASCAR’s Senior Vice President of Competition, Elton Sawyer, acknowledged that there may have been misinterpretations of the rule and that decisions made at Talladega might have been different in retrospect. Sawyer also confirmed that a comprehensive review of the DVP is planned for the offseason.
“On the heels of last week at Kansas, our goal was never to put good cars out of the race,” Sawyer said. “Last week, as we got looking at that and digesting it, maybe we should’ve made a different call last week. As we went into Talladega, we wanted to make sure we aired on the side of the competitors.”
While NASCAR seeks to ensure the safety of drivers and the integrity of the races, the recent events have highlighted the need for greater clarity and consistency in the application of the DVP. The upcoming offseason review is expected to address these concerns and establish a more definitive policy moving forward.
