Sun Oct 13 18:42:51 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Clinch Thrilling First T20I Win Against Sri Lanka

**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** West Indies secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Dambulla. The Caribbean side chased down a competitive target of 179 with four balls to spare.

Brandon King (63) and Evin Lewis (50) laid the foundation for the win, sharing a dominant 107-run opening partnership. King was particularly aggressive, smashing three boundaries off Asitha Fernando and bringing up his half-century with a six and a four off Pathirana. Lewis also showcased his power hitting, launching two sixes off Hasaranga.

Earlier, Sri Lanka, batting first, were propelled by brisk fifties from Kamindu Mendis (51) and Charith Asalanka (59). Mendis continued his stellar form with his second T20I half-century, while Asalanka also impressed with his aggressive approach, hitting three boundaries in the 12th over.

Despite the early loss of Kusal Perera (10) and the experienced Kusal Mendis (28), Sri Lanka recovered well thanks to the Mendis-Asalanka partnership. However, wickets fell in quick succession thereafter, limiting the hosts to 179/7.

The West Indies chase was a roller coaster ride. After the explosive start provided by King and Lewis, the team lost momentum briefly, but eventually sealed the win with a calm and calculated approach. Sherfane Rutherford finished things off with a boundary, clinching the victory for West Indies.

The second T20I is set to take place on July 22nd, with both teams eager to level the series.
