**Sydney, Australia** – Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has expressed his anticipation for a highly competitive Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India, starting later this month. The five-match series holds immense significance as it precedes the World Test Championship Final, where both teams are considered strong contenders.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Cummins reflected on the thrilling 2020-21 series, which went down to the wire at the Gabba. He acknowledged the crucial role played by Rishabh Pant in securing India’s victory under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership. India has won their last two tours of Australia and retained the BGT trophy for the last ten years, adding further weight to the upcoming clash.
“There’s always an element of attrition in the series against India,” said Cummins. “The last series came down to the last session at the Gabba on the last day of the last Test match. It’s a long series, and it might be tightly held until the last game.”
Cummins also expressed his concern regarding the injury to fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green, who has a stress fracture in his back. Green’s availability for the series is uncertain, and Cummins sympathized with his situation, stating that fast bowling is a physically demanding activity.
“We want him bowling, Cam wants to be bowling, and he has a long career ahead of him,” Cummins said. “It’s about trying to place Cam the cricketer in the best position he can be to have the career that he’s hoping for. He’s young, so I’m sure he’ll be right in the long run.”
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy series promises to be an intense battle between two of the world’s best Test teams. With the World Test Championship Final looming, both Australia and India will be eager to prove their dominance and gain a psychological edge.
