Sun Oct 13 20:02:00 UTC 2024: ## Green to Bat, Possibly Bowl, in India Test Series
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to feature as a batter in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, despite a back injury that will likely prevent him from bowling early in the series. Cricket Australia is set to formally announce the nature of the injury later this week, but sources indicate that plans are already in place to manage Green’s bowling workload.
While ruled out of the opening Sheffield Shield rounds, Green could potentially feature as a batter for Australia A against India A in early November. Despite his limited bowling ability, he remains a vital component of Australia’s batting order, having moved to number four after David Warner’s retirement.
Former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner explained that Green’s back stress injury will not hinder his batting and fielding once initial pain subsides. He suggested that Green’s bowling workload may be gradually increased as the series progresses, potentially reaching a similar level to his Test debut in 2020, where he bowled restricted overs.
With Green’s bowling capacity limited, Australia will likely rely on Mitch Marsh and Nathan Lyon to shoulder the bowling burden, particularly in the first three Tests in Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane.
Meanwhile, the opening round of the Sheffield Shield saw some notable performances. Queensland’s Michael Neser made a strong start to the season with a two-wicket haul in the first over, while Marcus Harris scored a century for Victoria. Young NSW opener Sam Konstas impressed with a maiden first-class century, drawing the attention of national selector George Bailey.
