**Bengaluru, India:** The bail hearing for Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Srinivas, currently in jail for his alleged involvement in the murder of Renukaswamy, was adjourned on Wednesday to Thursday.
The prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Prasanna Kumar, vehemently opposed the bail plea, alleging police mishandling of the investigation. Kumar countered the defense’s claims that the charges against Darshan were exaggerated, stating that the evidence presented is factual and not fictional.
The prosecution further highlighted that Darshan’s associates were in contact with Renukaswamy before the murder, citing chat records and photos exchanged between them. This contradicts the defense’s claim that the victim was unknown to them.
Regarding the delay in recording eyewitness accounts, Kumar defended the police, stating that the brutality of the crime necessitates a thorough investigation, and eyewitness testimonies are crucial in building a strong case.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court ordered the transfer of Pradosh S Rao, an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, back to Bengaluru’s Central Prison from Belagavi Central Prison. The court deemed his earlier transfer unjustified, citing concerns about his placement in an “Andheri Cell” without valid reason.
The case gained notoriety after photos of Darshan smoking and drinking coffee with inmates surfaced online. This led to calls for transferring all accused to different facilities to prevent witness influence. While Rao was not involved in the viral incident, his defense argued that he was unfairly included in the transfer order.
The High Court criticized the Magistrate’s court for transferring Rao without proper reasoning, emphasizing that under-trial prisoners cannot be moved at the whim of the prosecution. The court stated that if anyone was to be transferred, it should have been Darshan, considering the viral photos showing him interacting with other inmates.
The trial continues as the court investigates the murder of Renukaswamy, and the alleged mishandling of the case by the police.
