Mon Oct 14 07:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Bath & Body Works Pulls “Snowed In” Candle After Design Backlash
Bath & Body Works has pulled its “Snowed In” candle from shelves and online after its snowflake design sparked controversy. The candle’s festive red packaging, intended to evoke a winter wonderland, was met with widespread criticism due to the snowflakes resembling KKK hoods.
The design quickly went viral on social media, with many users pointing out the unfortunate resemblance. “Wait, how the fuck did nobody at bath & body works clock the klandle,” one user on X remarked.
In response to the backlash, Bath & Body Works issued an apology, stating, “At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers, and committed to fixing any mistakes we make — even those that are unintentional like this one. We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and evaluating our process going forward.”
This isn’t the first time the retailer has faced criticism for its packaging. In 2022, the company faced backlash for a Black History Month collection that featured kente-cloth-like packaging.
The incident highlights the importance of careful design and sensitivity in product branding. Bath & Body Works is now facing scrutiny for its design process and promises to evaluate its practices moving forward.
