**Thiruvananthapuram:** In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial role in Sanju Samson’s historic century during the third and final T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Samson, who became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I ton, revealed that Suryakumar calmed him down when he was on 96, urging him to savor the moment instead of going for a big hit.
“When I was on 96, I told Surya I’d smash it,” Samson shared, “but Surya told me to go easy because I earned it. I’m really happy with the kind of clarity I’ve received from captain Surya and Gautam (Gambhir).”
Suryakumar, witnessing the fireworks from the other end, was visibly delighted. “He worked hard and he had to earn it with his selfless attitude,” he said, adding, “I’m really happy for you.”
The two forged a 173-run partnership for the second wicket, Samson smashing 111 off 47 balls and Suryakumar contributing 75 off 35. Samson’s century came in just 40 balls, making it the second-fastest by an Indian after Rohit Sharma.
The series win against Bangladesh sets the stage for India’s upcoming T20I tour of South Africa, which will comprise four matches between November 8 and 15.
