Mon Oct 14 09:41:00 UTC 2024: ## Religious Procession Turns Deadly in Uttar Pradesh: One Killed, Four Injured in Clash
**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** A clash between two groups from different communities during a Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahaasi area of Bahraich district on Sunday, October 13, 2024, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to at least four others.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Gopal (22), while the injured are Sudhakar Tiwari (22), Ranjan (31), Divyang Satyawan (42) and Akhilesh Bajpai (52).
The incident occurred after unknown individuals reportedly fired shots and threw stones at the procession, disrupting its flow. The procession’s sound system was also damaged.
Following the incident, heavy police deployment has been put in place in the area, and district officials have been directed to the site.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured residents of safety and ordered swift action against the perpetrators. “Those who disrupt the atmosphere in Mahaasi, Bahraich district, will not be spared. Instructions have been given to identify the rioters and those who caused the incident due to their negligence and take strict action against them,” Adityanath stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He also asserted that the idol immersion process will continue and ensured the presence of administration and police officials to ensure timely completion of the event.
The authorities are actively investigating the incident and are in contact with religious leaders to maintain peace in the region.
