Mon Oct 14 10:44:10 UTC 2024: ## Ola Facing Regulatory Heat: CCPA Orders Refunds and Bills for Auto Rides
**New Delhi:** Ola, the ride-hailing giant, is facing increasing scrutiny from the Indian government. Following a series of complaints regarding its electric scooters, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has now issued a directive to Ola Cabs, demanding changes in its consumer practices.
The CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare, found Ola’s refund policy inadequate, providing only coupon codes for future rides instead of direct bank transfers. This, according to the CCPA, violates consumer rights. The authority has instructed Ola to offer customers the option of receiving refunds in their bank accounts.
Furthermore, the CCPA has ordered Ola to issue bills for all auto rides booked through its platform.
These directives come on the heels of a notice issued to Ola Electric, the electric two-wheeler arm of the company, earlier this month. The CCPA had received over 10,000 complaints against Ola Electric regarding quality issues and poor post-sales service. The company was given 15 days to respond to the notice.
This latest development adds to the mounting pressure on Ola, which is already grappling with challenges in its electric scooter business. The company has been criticized for quality issues, delayed deliveries, and poor customer service.
The CCPA’s action underscores the growing concern over consumer protection in the ride-hailing and electric vehicle sectors. The company is likely to face further scrutiny as the government strengthens its efforts to ensure fair and transparent practices in these rapidly evolving industries.
