**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** A peaceful Durga Visarjan procession turned violent in Bahraich on Wednesday evening, leaving one young man dead and sparking widespread unrest in the district.

The incident began when a heated argument broke out between two groups during the procession near Abdul Hamid’s house in Maharajganj Bazaar. Allegations surfaced that stones were thrown from rooftops, causing chaos and panic. Amidst the commotion, a 22-year-old man named Ram Gopal Mishra, a resident of Rehua Mansur village, was fatally shot.

Ram Gopal’s body, riddled with bullet wounds, fueled further outrage. The protesters accused the police of inaction and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

The situation spiraled out of control as enraged crowds vandalized vehicles, set properties ablaze, and even targeted Abdul Hamid’s house. The incident forced authorities to suspend the Visarjan processions across the district.

**Angry Protests & Official Response:**

Hundreds of protesters, including Ram Gopal’s family, gathered in front of Bahraich Medical College demanding swift action against the accused. The District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP), donned in helmets and jackets, attempted to pacify the crowd. Local BJP MLA Sureshwar Singh also joined the efforts to control the situation.

The protests escalated when the crowd refused to let Ram Gopal’s body be taken for postmortem. The protesters attacked the mortuary van, leading to tense standoffs with police and the BJP MLA, who faced the brunt of the crowd’s anger.

Police have registered an FIR and initiated investigations into the incident. They have already apprehended 25 individuals identified from videos of the violence.
