**New York, NY** – The number of whooping cough cases in the United States has seen a dramatic increase, with the CDC reporting over 17,600 cases as of October 5th. This represents a staggering 340% increase compared to last year, according to Fox News.

The surge in whooping cough infections, also known as pertussis, is attributed to several factors. Dr. Siegel stressed the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment, as the dry cough can be easily mistaken for a viral infection. He recommends antibiotics for adults and azithromycin for children.
