Sun Oct 13 15:01:42 UTC 2024: ## IPL Cracks Down on Overseas Player Skipping Editions, Cummins Unfazed

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has introduced a new rule that could have a significant impact on overseas players. The governing council will now ban any overseas player who skips the following edition after getting picked in the auction, unless for health or emergency reasons, for two years. This move is aimed at curbing the practice of some players, particularly English cricketers, who have previously pulled out of the league.

Despite this new rule, Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins remains unfazed. Known for his dedication to his country, Cummins has prioritized playing for Australia over franchise cricket, but has always fulfilled his commitment to his IPL team. He stated, “Test cricket is the absolute No. 1 priority, World Cups are right up there, and then I think you use them as your tent poles and work out what else makes sense around that.”

Cummins, who has been retained by SunRisers Hyderabad, is currently preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against India, starting in November. He has been rested from the recent UK tour to ensure his fitness for this crucial series. While Cummins is unaffected by the new rule, it remains to be seen how other overseas players will adjust to the new regulations.

The IPL retention list deadline is October 31, and SRH are expected to retain Cummins, along with several Indian players like Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Umran Malik. They are also hoping to retain Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.
