The Indian government’s Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) is now accepting applications from young individuals aged 21-24 years. The scheme, aiming to provide one crore internships over five years, has opened its portal for candidate registration. Over 80,000 opportunities across 24 sectors and 737 districts are currently listed, with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh leading the charge with over 56% of the total listings.

The pilot phase of the scheme, which is expected to enroll around 1 lakh youth by early December, aims to provide a 12-month internship opportunity to 1.25 lakh candidates in top 500 companies across India.

* **Eligibility:** Candidates must have passed high school, higher secondary school, hold an ITI certificate, diploma from a polytechnic institute, or have a bachelor’s degree.
* **Stipend:** Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 4,500 from the government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Companies will provide an additional Rs 500 per month from their CSR funds.
* **Selection Process:** The portal will match profiles, select candidates, and issue offer letters. Shortlisted candidates will be notified between October 27 and November 7, with acceptance deadline of November 15.
* **Key Sectors:** Oil, gas & energy, manufacturing & automotive, and banking & financial sectors have the highest number of internship opportunities.
* **Top States:** Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh have the highest number of listings.
