Sat Oct 12 19:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Texas Launches Direct Admissions Initiative to Streamline College Applications

**AUSTIN, TEXAS** – Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) announced the launch of a new Direct Admissions initiative aimed at simplifying the college application process for Texas students.

“We want to ensure that every Texan has the opportunity to pursue higher education,” said Governor Abbott. “Direct Admissions will alleviate the stress and confusion often associated with applying to college, allowing students and families to focus on finding the best fit for their future.”

The new program provides students with a list of participating Texas universities where they can qualify for admission before even starting the application process. Students share their academic information, including GPA and standardized test scores, through their My Texas Future profile. They can receive their acceptance list as early as the end of their junior year.

“This initiative will not only save time and increase transparency but also encourage more students to consider pursuing higher education,” said Interim Commissioner of Higher Education Sarah Keyton.

Thirty-one universities currently participate in Direct Admissions, including major institutions like Texas A&M University-College Station, The University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Houston.

Direct Admissions is part of a larger effort by THECB to create a more efficient and effective college admissions process in Texas. This program, along with tools like My Texas Future and ApplyTexas, aims to help students achieve their educational and career goals.

Families and students interested in learning more about Direct Admissions can visit the My Texas Future website.
