Sun Oct 13 14:26:05 UTC 2024: ## Opposition Blasts Maharashtra Government After NCP Leader Baba Siddique’s Murder
**Mumbai:** The murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique has sparked outrage, with the Opposition accusing the Maharashtra government of failing to maintain law and order.
Siddique, a prominent Muslim leader and former three-time MLA from Bandra West, was shot dead by three assailants on Saturday night in Mumbai. Despite having Y-category security, he was attacked in broad daylight just outside his son’s office.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a social media post, expressed his condolences to Siddique’s family and condemned the incident, calling it “a horrifying incident that exposes the complete collapse of law and order in Maharashtra.” He demanded that the government take responsibility and ensure justice prevails.
Other opposition leaders echoed these sentiments, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. They argued that if the government couldn’t protect a political leader with a high security clearance, how could they protect ordinary citizens.
Congress leader KC Venugopal described Siddique’s death as a “massive loss” and a “serious indictment of the crumbling law and order situation in Maharashtra.” He pointed out that Siddique had repeatedly informed authorities about threats to his life, but was killed despite his Y-plus security.
The Mumbai Police have arrested two suspects from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, while the third accused remains at large. The incident has reignited concerns about safety and security in the state and raised questions about the effectiveness of the Maharashtra government in combating crime.
