**MUMBAI** – Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Opposition in India’s Lok Sabha, has condemned the fatal shooting of prominent Muslim leader and former MLA Baba Siddique, calling it a shocking reflection of the “complete collapse of law and order” in Maharashtra.
Gandhi, in a statement on X, expressed his condolences to Siddique’s family and called for the government to take responsibility for the incident and ensure justice is served. He said the “horrifying incident” exposed the state government’s failure to maintain safety and security for its citizens.
Siddique, a former Congress member who recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot and killed on Saturday night by three assailants outside his son’s office in Mumbai’s Kher Nagar area. Police have apprehended two of the attackers, while one remains at large.
Siddique was known for his close relationships with Bollywood personalities and had served as the MLA for Bandra (West) for three consecutive terms. His untimely demise has sent shockwaves through Mumbai and the political sphere.
