Sun Oct 13 14:03:13 UTC 2024: ## NCP Leader Baba Siddique Shot Dead in Mumbai, Two Accused Arrested

**Mumbai, October 13, 2024:** Former Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot dead on Saturday in Mumbai’s Bandra area, sending shockwaves through the state’s political landscape. Two alleged assailants, Gurmail Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested by Mumbai Police on Sunday. The third accused, Shiv Kumar, is still on the run.

Siddique, known for his lavish Iftar parties attended by Bollywood stars, was shot outside his son’s office. Police are investigating angles of business rivalry, contract killing, and threats related to a slum rehabilitation project.

Salman Khan, a close friend of Siddique, visited his residence on Sunday to pay his respects.

The court ordered a bone ossification test to determine the age of Dharamraj Kashyap, who claimed to be a minor. The results will determine whether he will be tried in a juvenile or regular court.

Gurmail Singh, who has a prior criminal history including a murder case, has been remanded in police custody until October 21.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for a thorough investigation. Political leaders from across the spectrum, including Congress leader Ajoy Kumar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, expressed shock and demanded justice.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered a state funeral for Siddique, highlighting his contributions to the state’s governance. The BJP asserted that those involved in the killing would not be spared and condemned attempts to politicize the incident.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch revealed that six bullets were fired at Siddique, three of which hit him. They are currently verifying a social media post hinting at a possible gangster angle.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited Siddique’s family at the hospital and assured them that five teams are investigating the case.

The incident has raised serious questions about the law and order situation in Maharashtra. A thorough and transparent investigation is being demanded to bring the culprits to justice.
