**Mumbai, October 12:** Baba Siddique, a prominent leader of the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot dead in Mumbai late tonight. The incident occurred near his office in Bandra East, allegedly due to a dispute over an SRA project.
Police have confirmed that Siddique was shot at around 9:15 PM near the Ram Mandir in Bandra East. Two assailants, who have been apprehended, fired 3-4 rounds at Siddique, one of which hit him in the chest. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, Siddique succumbed to his injuries.
The incident sparked immediate chaos, with Siddique’s son, Zishan Siddique, and actor Sanjay Dutt rushing to the hospital. Several NCP leaders also converged at Lilavati, where the atmosphere was tense. A bystander, who was with Siddique at the time of the attack, sustained a bullet injury in his leg. Video footage of the incident has surfaced online.
Siddique, who had joined the NCP recently, was known for his close connections with the Bollywood industry. He hosted an annual Iftar party during Ramadan, which was attended by numerous celebrities. The 64-year-old was a three-time MLA from Bandra West, serving from 1999 to 2014. He also served as the Minister of State for Labour, Food & Civil Supplies, and Food and Drug Administration from 2004 to 2008.
Siddique’s death has sent shockwaves across the state, with political leaders from all parties expressing condolences. The Mumbai Police are investigating the matter thoroughly and are expected to provide further details soon.
