Sat Oct 12 21:50:00 UTC 2024: ## NCP Leader Baba Siddiqui Shot Dead in Mumbai

**MUMBAI:** NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister, Baba Siddiqui, was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday evening. According to reports, Siddiqui was attacked by three assailants who fired five rounds at him, three of which hit him.

The incident occurred when Siddiqui was leaving his office in Nirmal Nagar. As he stepped out and got into his car, the assailants, who had their faces covered with scarves, opened fire. One bullet hit him in the chest. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have detained two suspects, one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana. A third suspect is still at large.

Following the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Lilavati Hospital and assured that stringent action would be taken against the perpetrators. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar cancelled all his scheduled events for the day.

Siddiqui had resigned from the Congress Party earlier this year after being a member for 48 years. He had served as the MLA from Bandra West for three terms and was also a former Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies. He was also the president of the Mumbai division of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Mumbai’s political circles, with many expressing their condolences and condemning the attack.
