**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Noel Tata, the son of Naval H Tata and half-brother of the late Ratan Tata, has been appointed as the chairman of the Tata Trusts, the philanthropic arm of the Tata Group. This appointment comes following the passing of Ratan Tata on Thursday at the age of 86.

Noel Tata, 67, has a long history with the Tata Group, spanning over four decades. He currently holds several key positions within the group, including chairman of Trent, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation. He is also the vice-chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Limited.

Noel Tata’s appointment marks a significant moment for the Tata Trusts, as he becomes the 11th chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the sixth chairman of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. These two entities collectively own around 52 percent of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.

While Noel Tata was considered a potential successor to Ratan Tata as the chairman of Tata Sons, the position went to his brother-in-law, Cyrus Mistry. Following Mistry’s controversial departure, a seasoned executive from TCS was appointed to the role.

The selection of Noel Tata as the chairman of the Tata Trusts was unanimous, reflecting his extensive experience and deep understanding of the Tata Group’s values and principles.

The Tata Trusts are known for their significant contributions to various social causes, including healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. Noel Tata is expected to continue the legacy of the Tata Trusts, further expanding their reach and impact across India and beyond.
