Sat Oct 12 00:23:25 UTC 2024: ## Vijayadashami 2024: A Celebration of Victory and Good Over Evil

**New Delhi, India -** Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, will be celebrated across India on October 12, 2024, marking the end of the nine-day Durga Puja festival. This annual Hindu celebration commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

The festival is particularly popular in eastern India, with grand celebrations in states like West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Tripura, and Assam. Durga Puja, which encompasses Vijayadashami, is a multi-day event starting with Maha Saptami and culminating with Maha Dashami.

Vijayadashami marks the day Goddess Durga returns to her husband Shiva’s abode, Kailasa, after spending a year with her family. This day is also observed as the day when Lord Rama defeated Ravana.

This year, Vijayadashami will commence at 10:58 AM on October 12th and end at 9:08 AM on October 13th. Though the exact date might vary slightly based on the Hindu calendar, most of India will celebrate the festival on October 12th.

“May this Vijayadashami bring you strength to overcome your fears and move forward with courage,” said Monisa, a postgraduate in Human Physiology, adding that the festival signifies a new beginning and a chance for self-reflection.

This festive occasion will see elaborate decorations, cultural performances, and processions across the country. It’s a time for families to come together, offer prayers, and rejoice in the triumph of good over evil.
