Fri Oct 11 20:09:46 UTC 2024: ## Alia Bhatt’s “Jigra” Falls Short Despite Strong Performance
Alia Bhatt delivers a powerful performance in “Jigra,” departing from her usual light-hearted roles and showcasing a raw and emotional side as Satya, a sister seeking justice for her brother Ankur, wrongly implicated in a drug scam on a remote island. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, establishes a strong foundation for the characters’ bond, making their choices feel impactful.
Bhatt’s portrayal of Satya’s anger and determination feels genuine and organic, thanks to Bala’s simple yet effective approach to filmmaking. However, “Jigra” suffers from a linear plot that lacks depth and intrigue. The film becomes predictable and tedious, with the brother-sister relationship feeling underdeveloped and the climax stretching out unnecessarily.
While Manoj Pahwa’s supporting character boasts a well-defined arc, Vedang Raina’s portrayal of Ankur remains underdeveloped. The film’s central premise feels like a vehicle to showcase Bhatt’s star power rather than a compelling story in its own right. Notably, the film fails to deliver on the promise of Satya confronting the family responsible for her brother’s ordeal.
Despite Bhatt’s solid performance, “Jigra” ultimately falls short of its potential. While it adds to her filmography, the film lacks the depth and engagement needed to leave a lasting impact.
