Sat Oct 12 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh’s T20 Defeat Highlights Need for Improvement: Taskin Ahmed

**New Delhi, India** – Bangladesh’s crushing defeat in the second T20 match against India has highlighted a growing concern within the team: their inability to perform against top-tier opponents. The defeat, which saw India win by 86 runs, was marked by crucial moments that exposed Bangladesh’s weaknesses.

Taskin Ahmed, a standout pacer for Bangladesh, pointed to the dropped catch of Nitish Reddy early in the game as a turning point. Reddy went on to score a crucial 74 runs off just 34 balls, shifting the momentum of the match firmly in India’s favor.

“Catch drop is always costly, especially against an opponent like them who are the best in the world,” lamented Ahmed. He further highlighted the team’s struggle to score big runs, stating, “We don’t have that habit of scoring big runs, and that is the reality.”

Ahmed’s candid remarks reflect a growing concern within the Bangladeshi camp about their ability to adapt to high-pressure situations and compete with the top teams. Despite his own impressive performance, taking 2 wickets for 16 runs, he acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in their batting strategy.

The defeat has sparked a blame game within the team, with captain Najmul Hossain previously commenting on the team’s struggle to score 180 runs. Ahmed also highlighted the challenges posed by the pitch conditions, particularly the dew factor, which affected the spinners’ grip on the ball.

Ahmed went further, calling for a significant overhaul of Bangladesh’s cricketing infrastructure. He argued that the lack of suitable batting conditions in Bangladesh, compared to the superior wickets available to Indian players from a young age, is hindering their development.

“This habit that they have grown due to playing on good wickets from the early stage of their career is their biggest strength,” Ahmed said. He suggested letting go of Gamini de Silva, the head curator of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, and focusing on preparing quality pitches to nurture local talent.

“We have already informed the board to prepare good wickets, and the board is thinking about it,” he added, signaling a potential shift in the team’s approach towards infrastructure improvement.

This defeat has served as a wake-up call for Bangladesh, highlighting their need to address fundamental issues within the team and their cricketing infrastructure to close the gap with the top teams.
