**Chennai, October 11 (PTI):** A collision between the Bagmati Express train and a stationary goods train near Kavarapettai, close to Chennai in Tamil Nadu, resulted in the derailment of six carriages and injuries to several passengers.
The incident occurred at around 8:27 am when the express train, after crossing Ponneri station, experienced a sudden jolt and collided with the goods train while entering the ‘loopline’ track.
While no fatalities were reported, officials confirmed that several passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
A medical assistance train and a rescue team have been dispatched to the site.
Police sources reported a fire near one of the carriages, though railway authorities have not yet confirmed the information. Rescue personnel and ambulances have reached the scene.
Tiruvallur District Collector T Prabhushankar, senior state officials, and the Chennai Division Railway Manager (DRM) of Southern Railway have also been dispatched to the accident site.
