Thu Oct 10 23:01:16 UTC 2024: ## Mind Zone a Hit at Paris 2024 Olympics, Empowering Athletes with Mindfulness and Wellbeing

**Paris, France** – The Olympic Games Paris 2024 saw a resounding success for the new Mind Zone, a dedicated space within the Olympic Village aimed at enhancing athlete mental health and well-being. The initiative, a collaboration between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Coca-Cola’s Powerade brand, attracted athletes and entourage members from 148 countries, with a staggering 92% of visitors expressing satisfaction with the experience.

The Mind Zone offered a variety of services, including a bespoke virtual reality (VR) mindfulness experience. Athletes could immerse themselves in calming breathing and visualization exercises, even experiencing virtual journeys past the Eiffel Tower and inside the Olympic Stadium. Over 2,300 VR sessions were completed during the Games.

“For me personally, I love the Mind Zone; it’s mind-blowing,” said Mexican archer Ana Vázquez, who praised the VR experience for helping her relax and prepare for competition. “I cried the first time I did it, and I have been there a lot of times since then because I want to rest well and get ready for the competition.”

The Mind Zone also provided a tranquil environment for athletes to engage in activities like painting, yoga, and postcard writing. An IOC team was on site to guide athletes and provide confidential support, and trained psychologists and psychiatrists were readily available.

The Mind Zone was an integral part of the most comprehensive mental health package ever offered at the Olympic Games. This initiative, designed with a “Safeguarding and Mental Health Emergency Action Plan,” ensured that athletes requiring further support had multiple pathways to access it.

The success of the Mind Zone exemplifies the growing recognition of the importance of mental health alongside physical performance in elite sports. The initiative served as a powerful reminder that mental and physical health are intrinsically linked, highlighting the IOC’s commitment to athlete well-being.
