Fri Oct 11 15:09:20 UTC 2024: ## England Dominate Pakistan in First Test, Securing Historic Win

**Multan, Pakistan:** England’s “Bazball” approach proved too much for Pakistan as they secured a historic victory in the first Test match, winning by an innings and 47 runs at the Multan Cricket Ground.

The victory marks England’s first win in a Test series since Brendon McCullum took over as coach, and sees them take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The result also sees England achieve the remarkable feat of winning all matches where their opponents scored 500+ in the first innings since McCullum’s arrival.

Pakistan, batting first, had a strong start, scoring 556 runs thanks to centuries from Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Agha. However, England’s response was simply overwhelming.

Harry Brook, in a sensational performance, became the sixth English batter to score a triple century in Test cricket, reaching a mammoth 304 runs. Joe Root also contributed a magnificent 262 runs, becoming England’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket, surpassing Sir Alastair Cook.

This monumental partnership of 454 runs propelled England to a record-breaking 823/7 before they declared their innings. The total marks the fourth-highest innings total ever in Test cricket.

In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 220 runs, succumbing to a relentless bowling performance from England. Jack Leach was particularly impressive, taking four wickets and effectively ending any chance of a Pakistan comeback.

This crushing defeat marked the first time in Test cricket history that a team lost by an innings after scoring 500+ runs in the first innings. Pakistan will need to address their vulnerabilities quickly as they face a daunting task to level the series.

The second Test will be played at the same venue, starting on October 15th.
