**New Delhi, India -** Following a show cause notice from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) against Ola Electric for alleged violations of consumer rights, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has requested comments from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The ministry is seeking ARAI’s input as Ola Electric benefits from the PM E-Drive scheme, which provides subsidies for electric two-wheeler purchases.
The CCPA issued the notice to Ola Electric, citing numerous complaints received on the National Consumer Helpline portal. The most common issues raised by consumers involve service and repair delays, new vehicle delivery delays, unfulfilled promised services, manufacturing defects, and unsatisfactory responses to complaints.
Ola Electric’s S1 Pro, S1 Air, and S1 X models are eligible for demand subsidies under the PM E-Drive scheme. The Ministry pointed out in their letter to ARAI that, under the FAME II and PM E-Drive scheme, manufacturers like Ola Electric are required to maintain service centers and provide warranties to address customer issues.
The ministry’s intervention highlights concerns about the company’s compliance with consumer rights and its impact on the government-backed electric vehicle incentive scheme. ARAI, the testing agency for the FAME and PM E-Drive schemes, is expected to provide its assessment of the situation, potentially influencing the Ministry’s further actions. Ola Electric has 15 days to respond to the CCPA’s show cause notice.
