Fri Oct 11 11:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Alabama National Guard Deployed to Aid Hurricane-Ravaged Florida and North Carolina

**Montgomery, AL** – In a display of inter-state solidarity, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced the deployment of the Alabama National Guard to both Florida and North Carolina in the wake of Hurricanes Milton and Helene, respectively.

A 57-person Urban Search & Rescue Task Force will be dispatched to Florida to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Milton’s impact. Meanwhile, a 16-person team from the 20th Special Forces group will be deployed to North Carolina, adding to the National Guard presence already assisting with Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Two CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the 169th Aviation Regiment will also be deployed to aid in the recovery operations.

“Alabamians do not hesitate to lend help when our neighbors are in need,” Governor Ivey stated. “I am proud we have the Alabama National Guard and first responders supporting the efforts in both North Carolina and Florida.” She also expressed prayers for the safety of the deployed personnel and all those impacted by the hurricanes.

Alabama National Guard Adjutant General David Pritchett echoed the sentiment of service, highlighting the dedication of the deployed troops. “Days like today are why these Soldiers joined the National Guard,” he remarked, adding, “It’s a privilege to put this uniform on and show up when our country, states and communities need us most.”
